Pointers to get most out of your transmission

Make sure that your car's choke is kicked off before engaging the transmission into a gear.

Avoid jack-rabbit starts and power shifting.  Come to a complete stop before shifting from forward to reverse or the opposite.

Check transmission fluid level as regularly as you would check your motor oil.

Service your automatic transmission every fifteen thousand miles.

If towing a trailer or boat, an auxiliary transmission cooler is highly recommended.

Many later models use fine mesh filtering in their automatic transmissions which can easily become clogged with sediment from normal wear - regular maintenance of  the transmission filter and fluid is a must.

For those flood victims! After a car has been in a flood, service the transmission because water has contaminated your transmission oil.

Stall speed numbers are listed primarily to rate the converter performance level. This number specifies a RPM which your tachometer shows with the gas and brake pedals completely applied for not more than three seconds.  Do not attempt this yourself unless you are an experienced and knowledgeable mechanic/driver.
